PublicNews18: PIA passenger plane crashes near Karachi airport
A passenger plane has crashed near the airport in Karachi, Pakistan largest city, and there are fears of casualties.
According to a civil aviation spokesman, the Airbus A320 belonged to the country’s national airline PIA and was coming from Lahore to Karachi when it crashed before landing.
A PIA spokesman said that apparently the landing gear of the plane could not be opened and it crashed while ascending, but the final cause of the accident will be revealed only after an investigation.
The spokesman said that the PIA flight PK8303 left Lahore at 1 pm.
According to officials, the plane had 99 people on board, including eight crew members and 91 passengers.
According to Pakistani media, the plane crashed on a population called Jinnah Garden near Model Colony and several houses were severely damaged in the crash.
After the plane crashed, it caught fire and the oncoming vehicles caught fire. Dark clouds of smoke can also be seen rising from the crash site in the footage seen on TV.
Rescue operations have been launched as soon as the accident was reported and the authorities have appealed to the people to stay away from the accident site so that the rescue operations are not disrupted.
